Mach-5 / 6-9 September 2026 / Liblice / Czech Republic

Welcome!

Following the inspiring first Mach-5 conference at Plön Castle (Germany, 2022) and the vibrant second edition in the castle of Bertinoro (Italy, 2024), the third meeting of this biannual series will take place from 6–9 September 2026 in the Czech Republic.

This time, we will gather at Liblice Castle, a baroque pearl of Central Bohemia located in the village of Liblice near Mělník, just a short drive from Prague. Surrounded by tranquil gardens and steeped in history, Liblice Castle is one of the most remarkable baroque residences in the country, protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. Today it serves as a conference center, blending historical charm with modern facilities. In 2022, its accommodation facilities were awarded the Gold Award among Historic Hotels of Europe, making it not only a unique scientific venue but also an unforgettable place to stay.

We warmly invite you to join us for an intense and inspiring scientific program, enriched by the distinctive atmosphere of this exceptional location.

Topics

Mach-5 welcomes young scientists active in the field of artificial molecular machines and their components (motors, switches, rotors, actuators, …). Contributions are encouraged across the 3M spectrum: modelling, making, and measuring, as well as studies exploring the functions that emerge when molecular machines are coupled to energy sources or triggers (light, redox, concentration gradients, electric or magnetic fields, etc.) and their interactions with various environments (solution, surfaces, polymers, biological systems, …).

Scope

Mach-5 aims to provide a dynamic scientific forum on the many theoretical and experimental aspects of molecular machinery. The event is particularly dedicated to the involvement and support of young investigators—defined as scientists at the beginning of their independent careers, after the PhD but before obtaining a tenured position.

Format

The scientific program features presentations from young scientists, with ample room for discussion. Senior scientists are welcome as session chairs and moderators. A small number of tutorial or inspirational lectures by leading figures in the field will complement the program.

Contributions addressing controversial or visionary topics, reflections on broader scientific challenges, interdisciplinary approaches, and connections to culture, society, and science policy are especially encouraged. The informal environment and rich social program will foster networking and the free exchange of ideas. The active participation of all attendees—both in scientific sessions and social events—is considered an essential ingredient for the success of the meeting.
